Short, Sharp and Provocative

04 May

In 2007, the Steps global documentary film project Why Democracy? aired to an estimated audience of 250 million viewers on six continents. The groundbreaking event was made up of 10 long documentaries and 17 short films.

The short films were an integral part to the project, providing short and sharp films about democracy around the world. They were also made to be shared on blogs, websites and social networks to spark reflection and debate with an online audience.

It’s been 5 years since the films were made and they continue to be useful as a provocative look at democracy around the world. Here are few, the rest can be seen here.

Coming of Age (Judy Kibinge, Kenya)

Feminin/Masculin (Sadaf Foroughi, Iran)

P Sainath on Western Democracy (Deepa Bhatia, India)
